Neural Synchrony and Teamwork: Why Brain Alignment Hurts Complex CX

What happened
A peer-reviewed study published in NeuroImage has found that when pairs of people collaborate on complex tasks, higher levels of neural synchrony between their brains are associated with worse strategic performance, not better. Researchers recorded brain activity in participants playing cooperative video games and observed that, although brains naturally tend to align during joint activity, the teams whose neural patterns synchronised most strongly consistently underperformed on tasks requiring sophisticated decision-making.
