The Feedback Loop
Feedback Loop is an engaging and dynamic game that simulates real-time customer feedback gathering and implementation. Participants are tasked with quickly adapting a product or service based on incoming customer suggestions and criticisms to meet evolving expectations.
Learning Objective
Teams can ingest a stream of conflicting customer feedback and decide — fast — what to change, what to ignore, and what to test, practising disciplined responsiveness without whiplash.
How to Play
Setup
Pick a simple product or service for teams to "own" (a coffee-shop app, a hotel check-in). Prepare three rounds of feedback cards — each round adds new, sometimes contradictory, customer demands. Give each team a one-page product sheet to mark up.
Rules
- Round 1: the facilitator releases five feedback cards; teams have five minutes to decide which to act on and update their product sheet.
- Round 2: five more cards arrive, some contradicting Round 1 — teams must reconcile them.
- Round 3: a final batch includes one loud minority demand and one quiet majority signal.
- Teams may only make three changes per round and must justify each in one line.
- After three rounds, each team shows what their product became and why.
Debrief
Spend ten minutes separating signal from noise. Ask three questions in order:
- Which feedback did you act on that you now think was the loudest voice, not the most important one?
- Where does your real feedback process over-react to vocal minorities?
- What lightweight test would have told you which feedback to trust?
CX Principle Reinforced
Listening is a system, not a gesture. Closing the loop — capturing feedback, deciding, acting, and telling customers what changed — is what turns surveys into trust. But responsiveness without discipline causes thrash: availability bias makes the most recent or vivid complaint feel most urgent, even when quiet signals matter more. The game teaches teams to weight feedback by evidence, cap their changes, and validate before committing.
Format
