Palo Alto Networks Buys Embrace, Enters Experience Monitoring

What happened

Palo Alto Networks has moved to acquire Embrace, a mobile observability platform, in a deal that brings digital experience monitoring capabilities into the cybersecurity giant's portfolio. The acquisition combines Embrace's telemetry on how mobile applications actually perform for end users with Palo Alto Networks' existing security and network monitoring stack.

The move signals a strategic push by Palo Alto Networks beyond its traditional security remit into the adjacent discipline of digital experience monitoring — the practice of tracking how real users interact with apps and services, including performance, crashes, latency and session-level behaviour.

By folding Embrace's mobile observability data into its own platform, Palo Alto Networks is positioning itself to offer enterprise customers a single vantage point that spans security telemetry and user-experience data, rather than treating the two as separate monitoring disciplines handled by different vendors.

Why it matters

This is fundamentally a digital transformation and technology-stack story: it reflects a broader convergence trend in which security vendors are absorbing observability and experience-monitoring capabilities that once sat with dedicated CX or application-performance vendors. For enterprises, that consolidation changes who inside the organisation controls the data that reveals how customers actually experience digital products — traditionally the domain of product, engineering or CX teams, increasingly folded into security and IT operations platforms.

For leaders running digital transformation programmes, the acquisition is a signal to revisit vendor architecture. As security platforms absorb observability functions, the lines between "security monitoring" and "experience monitoring" blur — with implications for how organisations structure data ownership, tooling budgets and the teams responsible for acting on experience signals.

The Renascence take

The headline is an acquisition, but the real story is about who owns the truth about customer experience inside the enterprise. When experience telemetry sits inside a security platform, the people closest to the customer — product and CX teams — risk losing direct, unmediated access to the very data that should be informing service design decisions.

Data ownership shapes behaviour long before anyone looks at a dashboard. If experience signals now flow through a security-first lens, the questions asked of that data will skew toward risk and uptime rather than friction, delight or intent — and CX teams that don't insist on a seat at the table will find their insight arriving late, filtered, or not at all. Customer-obsessed operators should treat this consolidation as a prompt to renegotiate who sees experience data first, not just which vendor supplies it.

FAQ

Questions we get on this topic

Palo Alto Networks has moved to acquire Embrace, a mobile observability platform that tracks how mobile apps perform for real users, including crashes, latency and session-level behaviour.

The deal lets Palo Alto Networks combine Embrace's user-experience telemetry with its existing security and network monitoring stack, giving enterprise customers a single platform spanning both security and experience data.

By absorbing Embrace's observability capabilities into a security platform, the acquisition shifts control of experience telemetry away from product and CX teams and toward security and IT operations functions.

Renascence argues leaders should revisit vendor architecture and data ownership, ensuring CX and product teams retain direct access to experience signals rather than receiving them filtered through a security-first lens.
